DATE APEROVED DATE EFFECTIVE 1.0. Discussion
1.1 Purpose and Scope
1.1.1 The purpose of this procedure is to identify a method of performing a backup analysis for chloride concentration following a design basis accident on the RCS, RHR or RCB sump.
1.1.2 This procedure meets the requirement of NUREG 0737 item II.B.3 (Post Accident Sampling Capabilities) to provide a backup method for in line monitoring.
1.2 Definitions None 1.3 Principle 1.3.1 The presence of as little as 2 ppm Cl-in the RCS, kHR, or RCB sump, along with the conditions of low pH, temperature of 150 - 300 F, and the presence of dissolved oxygen greater than 1.0 ppm can result in the intergranular stress corrosion cracking of austenitic stainless steel. Early detection is considered important in timely application of countermeasures to prevent harmful effects of chloride contamination. For this reason a backup method of chloride analysis is needed.
1.3.2 This method employs a diluted sample taken from the PASS and run through the Dionex IC in the PASS Lab, Radiochemistry Lab, or Secondary Chemistry Lab.

Backup Determination of Chlorides -
IPCP08-ZZ-0007 Post Accident Rev. O Page 2 of 3 1.4 Limitations 1.4.1 Range of analysis in accordance with OPCP02-ZD-0002 is 0.001 - 100 ppm chlorides.
a.
A diluted PASS sample of 1:100 will give an analysis range of 0.10 - 10,000 ppm Cl.
b.
A diluted PASS sample of 1:1000 will give an analysis range of 100 - 100,000 ppm C1.
2.0 Prerequisites 2.1 The Ion chromatograph to be used shall be set up and standardized in accordance with OPCP02-ZD-0002 (Determination of Anion-Ion Chromatographic Method).
3.0 Precautions 3.1 Sample collection, preparation and analysis shall be performed under applicable Radiation Work Permits.
3.2 All personnel working within the PASS facilit'y shall be responsible l
for ensuring that radiation exposure associated with knplementing this procedure is kept as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA).
3.3 Personnel transferring radioactive material shall use measures necessary to prevent the spread of contamination during packaging and transporting in accordance with applicable procedure (s).
4.0 Procedure f
4.1 Collect either an RCS, RHR, or RCB sump sample in accordance with IPCP08-AP-0003 (Sampling and Analysis of RCS, RHR, and RCP Sump -
Post Accident). Note the dilution used (i.e. 1:100, 1:1000) 4.2 If necessary, transport sample (s' to the appropriate laboratory.
4.3 Analyze sample (s) for chlorides in accordance with OPCP02-ZD-0002 (Determination of Anion-Chromatographic Method).
4.4 If the sample was diluted in step 4.1, calculate the actual chloride concentration in accordance with Section 5.0.
4.5 Record the results on the Core Damage Assessment Data Sheet - Back up Analyses IPCP08-AP-0001-2 1--
