1.1 Purpose and Scope

1.1.1 The purpose of this procedure is to identify a method of performing a backup analysis for boron concentration following a design base accident on the RCS, RHR, or RCB Sump.

1.1.2 This procedure meets the requirements of NUREG 0737 item II.B.3 (Post-Accident Sampling Capabilities) to provide a backup method for any in line monitoring.

1.2 Definitions None 1.3 Principle l

1.3.1 In the event of a design bcse accident it will be necessary I

to verify the boron concentration in the RCS, RHR, or RCB sump to ensure that the nroper shutdown margin has been attained.

In the event that the in line boron analyzer fails on the PASS, diluted grab sample can be taken at the Liquid and Gas Sample Panel (LGSP) in a shielded syringe. The j

sample can then be analyzed for boron in either the PASS laboratory or taken to the Radiochetaistry laboratory for analysis. This method utilizes an auto-titrimeter with the potentiometric method.

Page 2 of 3 1.4 Limitations 1.4.1 This procedure is capable of measuring boron in the range of 0-6000 ppa using a 1:100 or 1:1000 dilution.

2.0 Prerequisites 2.1 The auto-titrimeter standardized in,accordance with Section 6.0 of OPCP02-ZB-0037 (Determination of Boron-Potentiometric Method Using i

the Auto-titrator).

3.0 Precautions 3.1 Sample collection, preparation and analysis shall be performed under applicable Radiation Work Permits.

3.2 All personnel working within the PASS facility shall be responsible for ensuring that radiation exposure associated with implementing this procedure is kept as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA).

3.3 Personnel transferring radioactive material shall use measures t

I necessary to prevent the spread of contamination during packaging and transporting in accordance with applicable procedure (s).

D 4.0 Procedure 4.1 Collect either. a RCS, RCB Sump, or RRR san.ple in accordance with IPCP08-AP-0003 (Sampling and Analysis of RCS, RHR, and RCB Sump-Post Accident). Note the dilution used.

4.2 If necessary transport the sample to the Radiochemistry laboratory for analysis'in accordance with OPRP03-ZM-0014 (Movement of Material Out of Radiologically Controlled Area).

4.3 Perform the boron analysis in accordance with OPCP02-ZB-0037' (Determination of Boron-Potentiometric Method Using the Auto-titrator).

4.4 If the samle was diluted in step 4.1 calculate the actual boron concentration in accordance with Section 5.0.

4.5 Record the results on Form IPCP08-AP-0001-2 Core Damage Assessment Data Sheet Backup Analyses.
