Inspection Report No. 50-293/87-16
This refers to the routine safety inspection (50-293/87-16) conducted by
Dr. M. McBride, Mr. J. Lyash and Mr. T. Kim of this office on February 21, 1987
to April 6,1987 at the P,ilgrim Nuclear Power Station, Plymouth, Massachusetts.
Areas examined during this inspection are described in the NRC Region I
Inspection Report which is enclosed with this letter. We identified one viola-
tion of NRC requirements as discussed in the enclosed Notice of Violation.
Please respond to the Notice within thirty days from receipt of this letter.
This violation indicates poor attention to detail in performance of fire pro-
tection equipment surveillances. Our inspection also indicates that your newly
established Fire Protection Group is not yet fully effective in monitoring fire
protection system equipment status. Although progress in the Fire Protection
Program has been evident since our meeting in January of this year, the program
still requires continued attention.
The response directed by this letter and the accompanying Notice are not
subject to the clearance procedures of the Office of Management and Budget as
required by the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1980, PL 96-511.
