Docket No. 50-346 Serial No. D-B 87-003 Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station, Unit No. 1 Mr.' Donald C. Shelton Vice President, Nuclear Toledo Edison Company Edison Plaza - Stop 712

. 300 Madison Avenue Toledo, Ohio 43652

Dear Mr. Shelton:

SUC;1ECT: REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: ITEM 2.2 (PART 2) 3 GENERIC LETTER 83-28 (TAC NO. 53665)

On March 26, 1987, we requested additional information related to Item 2.2 (Part 2) of Generic Letter 83-28. You have agreed to provide the requested information by June 1, 1987. However, we find that some supplemental information, as fo11cws, will be required with respect to this issue.

j' The staff finds the NUTAC/VETIP program acceptable for those instances where a vendor interface cannot be practicably established, e.g. , where a vendor has gone out of business. However, you are requested to commit to establish a program to periodically contact vendors of key components (such as auxiliary feed pumps, safety-related batteries, ECCS pumps and safety-related valve i

operators) periodically to facilitate the exchange of current technical I information. In the case of the diesel generator and safety-related switchgear vendors, a formal interface such as that with NSSS vendor should be established if practicable.

This information request affects fewer than ten respondents; therefore, OMB clearance is not required under PL 96-511. A response is requested no later j

than July 1, 1987.

4 Sincerely,
