Dear Mr. Tiernan:

The NRC Generic Letter (GL) 87-06, " Periodic Verification of Leak Tight Isolation Valves," requested submission of a list of all pressure isolation valves at Calvert Cliffs Units 1 and 2 and a description of any tests and measures taken to ensure their integrity.

This information was required to be submitted by June 11, 1987.

Your letter dated May 22, 1987, requested a 30-day extension until July 11, 1987, to the required deadline for providing this information. This request was based upon the severe manpower requirements experienced since April 1, 1987 in resolution of the environmental qualification and ASME Code fastener certification deficiencies at both units.

It appears that BG&E has made a good faith attempt to comply with the schedular reouirements of GL 87-06 as reflected by your earlier conversations with our staff for the purpose of obtaining additional guidance concerning the information requested.

However, these efforts were frustrated by the events surrounding the aforementioned deficiencies.

Based upon the above, the staff concurs and agrees to extend the deadline for Calvert Cliffs Units 1 and 2 for submission of the information requested in GL 87-06 to July 11, 1987.

Sincerely, Scott Alexander McNeil, Project Manager Project Directorate I-1 Division of Reactor Projects, I/II cc: See next page W
