Inspection Report No. 50-271/87-02
This refers to the routine resident safety inspection conducted-by Mr. W. J. Raymond
of this office on January 5 - February 2, 1987, at the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power
Station, Vernon, Vermont.
The inspection consisted of observation of activities,
interviews with personnel and document reviews.
The results of the inspection are
described in the NRC Region I Inspection Report enclosed with.this letter and were
discussed with Mr. J. P. Pelletier of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.
Our inspector also reviewed your corrective actions taken in response to our letter
to you dated July 3, 1986 concerning the control of defective materials.
We have
no further questions regarding your actions at this time.
Additionally, on January 16, 1987, Mr. Raymond provided Mr. Pelletier a detailed
evaluation of licensee event report (LER) quality, Attachment II to the enclosed
inspection report, which was used as input to the Systematic Assessment of Licensee
Performance for Vermont Yankee for the period from October 1, 1985 to December 31,
1986.
The LER evaluation was made by the NRC using the basic methodology presented
in NUREG-1022, Supplement 2.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice", a copy of this
letter and the enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
