SPECIAL PROGRAM NON-RESTART JUSTIFICATION
SUMMARY
SUBCATEGORY / ELEMENT 229.10181 While the use of mercury in dif ferent applications (e.g., mercury vapor lamps) inside containments or in areas of possible contact with austinetic stainless steel in primary loops and safety systems have been limited, there is no absolute prohibition against the proper application of mercury contact switches in land based nuclear reactor projects.
+
Proper application of mercury switches to uses where their inherent advantages offset their limitations is permitted.
Design guidance outlining these parameterc is in place. As stated in the concern, corrective actions, where use of such devices is presumably not in accordance with such design guidance, have been taken at SQN.
