This letter refers to the routine inspection conducted by Mr. H. Gregg of this
office on December 1-5, 1986 at the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station Unit 2,
[
Scriba, New York. Mr. Gregg discussed the findings of the inspection with
Mr. R. Abbott and other members of your staff at the conclusion of the
inspection.
The objective of this inspection was to follow up on your activities related to
problems with the new Ball Type 24" Main Steam Isolation Valves (MSIVs). Areas
]
examined during this inspection are described in the NRC Region I Inspection
Report which is enclosed with this letter. Within these areas, the inspection
consisted of obtaining an update on the progress of repairing and leak testing
the MSIVs, obtaining information concerning new problem areas and assessing
corrective actions concerning the valves.
Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were observed.
No reply to this letter is required. Your cooperation with us in this matter
is appreciated.
