L The CPS Motor Operate'd' Valve (MOV)-Program-is.a combination of inspections, routine preventive. maintenance ! and periodic testing which is performed, to. ensure-a operability of the valves. .The MOVs performance is dependent on both its mechanical / electrical condition and its ability to operate and achieve the thrust requirements' .

.necessary to open and/or.close the valve under both normal operating and accident conditions which include degraded voltage, seismic ~ events, harsh environmental conditions and extreme delta P/ flow conditions.

This procedure covers the inspection and preventive maintenance for the valves and their motor operators. CPS . No. 8451.02 covers setup of the valves for proper limit switch / bypass operation, setting of the torque switches for required thrust and diagnostic testing. Also included

.in the program is CPS No.-8451.03 which covers repair and overhaul of motor operations. _
-It'is imperative that while performing this procedure that ,

the individual understand the adverse conditions in which the valves may be required to operate, be observant of any t conditions which may affect its operation and resolve any

!_ required, i Some items which do not effect the operating parameters of the valve may be reworked,.if necessary, in accordance . with the details of this procedure. Items which effect - the operating parameters of the valve are listed in  : limitations section of the procedure and will require an . electrical setup, removat.4 or diagnostic test of the MOV . in accordance with CPS No.- 8451.02. 3 5 3.0 RESPONSIBILITY J The Supervisor - Electrical is responsible for ensuring J-the proper implementation and review of this procedure. 5 Page No. 3 of 23 Rev. the valve vendors. The torque valves are defined as follows: Normal Torque: Minimum torque required to ti.ghten the nut such that it does not cause leakage. Maximum Torque: Maximum allowable torque. This valve shall never be exceeded without further engineering evaluation. 3 i The torque values indicated above are for gate and globe valves. Specific torque requirements are not required for butterfly and plug y valves'because these valves close and open on limit (not thrust) and packing gland load will not affect their operability.
