RESPONSE TO REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION CONCERNING EF*
STEAM GENERATOR TUBE REPAIR CRITERIA DATED FEBRUARY 13, 1997.
FOR PRAIRIE ISLAND NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 (TAC NOS. M96654 and M96655)
Dear Mr. Anderson:
By letter dated February 13. 1997, the staff issued a request for adoltional information (RAI) to Northern States Power Company (NSP) regarding application of F* and EF* steam generator tube repair criteria for Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant, Units 1 and 2.=
The information pertaining to the.F* tube
-re;;s',e criteria was necessary for the staff to determine, prior to startup of Unit 2 in March 1997, the acceptability for continued service tubes previously re) aired by rerolling. You responded to-the F* questions in a letter dated Fe)ruary 19.1997
.The information pertaining to the EF* tube repair criteria is necessary.for the staff to complete its review of your technical specification amendment request concerning the use of the elevated F* tube s
repair criteria.
NSP has not responded to these questions.
Your response to the staff's RAI has not been timely.
10 CFR 2.108 states in part, the Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation may deny an application if an applicant fails to respond to a-RAI within 30 days from the date of the request"or within such other time as may be s)ecified.
Please provide your response to the staff's questions regarding E:* tube repair criteria -in our letter dated February 13. 1997, within 30 days of the date of this letter-or your; request for amendment will be denied.
