Subject:

McGuire Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-369, 50-370 Commitment Revision

Dear Dr. Grace:

In LER 369/85-11 dated May 9, 1985, Duke Power reported the completion of a shutdown on Unit I required by Technical Specifications due to low boron concentration in a cold leg accumulator.

In this LER, Duke stated that two nuclear station modifications were in the design stages to replace the cold leg accumulator check valves with another type valve. This work is proceeding on Unit 1.

This planned modification has however, been indefinitely postponed for Unit 2.

Unit 2 has not experienced the leakage from the reactor coolant system into the accumulators that required the' shutdown of Unit 1 as described in LER 369/85-11, so the modification is unnecessary at this time. Should Unit 2 experience such leakage, the modification will, at that time, be rescheduled.

Very truly yours, i
