In accordance with Section 6.9.1.3 of the Catawba Nuclear Station Technical Specifications, please find attached the first quarterly update to the Unit 2 Startup Report. As indicated on my November 17, 1986 letter to Dr. J. Nelson Grace, NRC/ Region II, some tests are not yet complete. Additional quarterly updates to the Startup Report will be submitted as required by Technical Specifications.

TESTING COMPLETED DURING QUARTER

l. UNIT LOAD STEADY STATE - PT/2/B/4150/16 This test was described in Sections 7.2 and 10.4 in the Startup Report. The test was completed following the replacement of a 7300 Process Control System circuit card associated with loop B T-Hot indication. This solved a problem discovered while making delta-T measurements. The test was completed on November 26,1986. The measured full 1

power delta-T's (in Deg. F) for each loop were: 56.2 (A),

56.8 (B), 57.1 (C) and 57.1 (D).

STATUS OF TESTING NOT COMPLETE

1. UNIT LOSS OF ELECTRICAL LOAD TEST - TP/2/A/2650/06 1

i Thi.s test was described in Sections 7.6 and 10.1 in the Startup Report. It has not yet been performed. It will be performed when Unit conditions permit.

2. SECONDARY SYSTEMS FUNCTIONAL TEST - TP/2/B/2650/09 This test was described in Sections 10.2 and 11.2 in the Startup Report. It is complete except for measurements to be made during the Unit Loss of Electrical Load Test.
3. POST TRANSIENT PIPING SURVEY - TP/2/A/1200/26 This test was described in Sections 10.3 and 11.6 in the Startup Report. It is complete except for inspections to be made following the Unit Loss of Electrical Load Test.
4. STEADY STATE PIPING SYSTEMS OPERATIONAL VIBRATION

MEASUREMENT - TP/2/A/1200/21 l

This test was described in Sections 10.5 and 11.5 in the Startup Report. It is complete except for retesting of piping associated with the Diesel Generator Fuel Oil and i

Lube Oil systems. Additional restraints are to be installed.

5. WASTE GAS EFFLUENT RADIATION MONITORING TEST -

TP/0/B/2600/15A This test was described in Sections 9.3 and 10.6 in the Startup Report. This test has not been performed. It requires completion of modifications to the Waste Gas I

system. This is to be done during the summer of 1987.
