Evaluation of Masonry Walls The Grand Gulf Unit 1 operating license, Paragraph 2.C.(9), requires that prior to startup following the first refueling outage, Mississippi Power & Light Company (MP&L) shall complete structural modifications, if required, as a result of the NRC staff's completion of its review of the MP&L response to IE Bulletin 80-11. By letters dated January 19, 1982, January 28, 1983, and April 13, 1983, the licensee provided its Grand Gulf Nuclear Station (GGNS) reevaluation criteria for masonry walls in response to IE Bulletin 80-11 and responses to questions raised by the NRC staff regarding these criteria. The licensee has also responded to NRC staff questions regarding as-built modifications.of some of. the masonry walls, as noted in NRC inspection reports dated April 14, 1983, August 22, 1983, and October 19, 1983 The NRC staff has completed its review of the GGNS criteria for reevajuation of masonry walls and the modifications based on these criteria. The staff's safety evaluation is enclosed.
The staff concludes that the GGNS reevaluation criteria for masonry walls and modifications that were made based on these criteria are acceptable. Accordingly, License Condition 2.C.(9) has been fulfilled.
