0 Attachment 4 I. Description of the Generation Process The NPD Nuclear Maintenance Group Instrumentation and Electri-cal Section generated the SPDS logic. Each Catawba Status Tree was translated into a logic diagram comprised of AND, OR, and NOT gates and appropriate input signals. Each Status Tree terminus corresponded to a logic diagram terminus. The coincidence logic design considered the following criteria in developing termini:

1. The answers that must be given to various Status Tree questions to arrive at a given terminus

2. The redundancy between channels and components as these affected input signal development

3. The available analog and digital computer points

4. The inherent physical process delays associated with the monitoring of transient events II. Sununcry of Results Since verification comments were incorporated continuously during the logic generation process, the resulting logic diagrams are applicable for both.

III. Listing of Applicable Correspondence since logic generation and verification were performed as a continuous interactive process, it is difficult to separate
