3 Mr. James G.-Keppler February 12, 1986 i
VP-86-0015 Page 2 Since L. W. Hastings was appointed to the position of Director
- Nuclear Security on September 1,
- 1985, S. L. Thompson, Assistant Director - Nuclear Security and M.
S. Candela, Supervisor - Background Investigations, have repor ted directly to Mr. Hastings.
All three of these positions are permanently filled by these three individuals.
The Nuclear Security Chief position is being temporarily filled by W. P. Hawkins for a one-year assignment ending in May, 1986.
By the end of this assignment, a decision will be made on the selection of an individual to permanently fill this position.
A fourth non-supervisory position, Nuclear Security Coordinator, formerly reported to the Director - Nuclear Security and was filled by J. H. Korte, Contract Administrator.
These responsibilities have been assigned to the Nuclear Security Staff Section which is supervised by the Assistant Director -
Nuclear Security.
Changes to the organizational section of the Physical Security Plan will be made to describe the Staf f Section responsibilities which include those of the forner Nuclear Security Coordinator.
Additional details of our Nuclear Security organizational plans have been discussed with the Safeguards Section.
In summary, three of the four principal positions in Nuclear Security are permanently filled and a decision will be made on the Nuclear Security Chief in May, 1986.
In addition, the Nuclear Security job enrichment program supplements the personnel permanently assigned to the Nuclear Security Staff and Background Investigation Sections with personnel from the Uniform Section.
This program provides opportunities for the officers personal growth and contributes to the officers morale while providing current operational experience to the Nuclear Security office and a better understanding of the Nuclear Security office to the Uniform i
Section.
To date, job enrichment has been a very positive program.
a Sincerely, MY cc:
P.M. Byron G.C. Wright USSF.C Occurant Contrci Derk Washington, D.C.
