4.0 DESCRIPTION

OF FEEDTHROUGH/ ADAPTER MODULE ASSEMBLY 4.1 The Conax Feedthrough/ Adapter Module Assemblies shall be used to connect the Conax Feedthrough Modules to the Amphenol Sams Electrical Penetration Assemblies.

4.2 Each adapter module assembly consists of a stainless steel adapter body with one feedthrough module passing through it. The body adapts directly to the penetration header plate.

5.0 PREPARATION FOR INSTALLATION OF ADAPTER MODULE ASSEMBLIES 5.1 Drawings of the adapter module assemblies shall be available during installation.

  • 5.2 Remove adapter modules one at a time as needed.

CAUTION: During handling of adapter module assemblies, use extreme

' care not to abraid, scuff, or cut the conductors insulation.

If conductor insulation has been damaged, it may be repaired using Raychem WCSF-N tubing, or Engineer approved equal .

CAUTION: Do not exceed the minimum bend radius for conductors (See Section 7.0).

i 5.3 Parts for the installation of each adapter module assembly are packed with the module in the same carton. Inventory the parts per the top assembly drawing (7060-10000) and parts lists. Report any dis-crepancies to Electrical Engineering.

5.4 Visually inspect each adapter module assembly to make certain no damage has occurred during shipment or storage.

Remove existing modules or plugs from the penetration in accordance with EEI-12.

5.5 Inspect the surface finishes of the penetration header port and adapter module body per Detail A of the top assembly drawing (7060-(10000). .

5.6 Remove the caplug (Conax P/N N-49006-17) installed in the pressure monitoring hole of the adapter module body.

PAGE JOB 35-1195 EEI-22 0 10/4/82 3 of 4 6.0 INSTALLATION OF ADAPTER MODULE ASSEMBLIES 6.1 Install the Conax Feedthrough/ Adapter module assembly into the penetration per the Amphenol Sams instruction manual except as modified per Section 6.0.

WARNING: Do not allow polar organic solvents such as Ketones (MEK),

chlorinated hydrocarbons or aromatic tydrocarbons (Acetone) to come in direct contact with or per. nit open containers in close proximity to the adapter modules as these materials may cause irreparable damage to the conductor seals. Clean adapter modules with denatured alcohol or Freon TF.

6.2 Install the outside containment "Q" seals or$to the adapter module prior to installing the support bushings on the feedthrough tube.

6.3 Position the support bushing (s) of the adapter module on the feedthrough tube to insure that it (they) will be centered in approx-imately the middle of the penetration conductor support when the module is installed.

6.4 During installation, insure that the set screws of the eccentric conguctor support bushings of the module align radially within

+5 of the axial center of the penetration per view B-B of the Riodule , assembly drawing (7060-10000).

6.5 Module pigtail conductors shall be supported a maximum of 36 inches from the penetrating header plate or conductor support.

7.0 MINIMUM BEND RADIUS 7.1 The minimum inside bending radius of the module conductors is 10 times its insulated diameter for conductor sizes #16 AWG through

  1. 10 AWG and 6 times its insulated diameter for conductor sizes
  1. 8 AWG through #2 AWG.

7.2 Conductor sizes larger than #2 AWG and Coax /Triax cables are rigid and shall not be bent except when the adapter module must be sep-arated to gain clearances between conductors. For this exception, cables shall not be bent more than 1" from the axial centerline of the module (13/4" maximum from each other) as shown on the detail of the top assembly drawing (7060-10000).

CAUTION: Do not overbend cable. Do not attempt to bend cables more than once since the conductor of the module may be damaged.

9.0 FEEDTHROUGH ADAPTER IDENTIFICATION 9.1 Gibbs & Hill Specification 2323-ES-12A, Table 1, identifies EPA conductor requirements.

9.2 Conax drawing No. 7060-10000 identifies adapi;er module part number, module number and EPA part numbee.
