REPORT OF #4ERICltF.-241 CONTAMINATION AT VRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE During the week of October 15, 1986, I ractived a '.elephone call free a Captain Donovan of the U.S. Air Force (telephone,iumber 512/536-3331) during which he requested a listing of suppliers of amcricium-241 in unsealed fonn in..

I stated that such a listieg could be derived and that we the Dayton area.

considered one major "source' of.such mateial to be J. C. Haynes, a former HRC licensee. Captain Donovan stated that this source had already been disecunted, although he gave no reason as to why.

I asked Captain Donovan why such a listing'was needed. He stated that Wright-Patterson Air Force Base had a "small spill' involving americium-241 and that they were trying to detennine the original source of the mattrial.

I generated the listing of sources of americium-241 in unsealed fonn At

(/.ttachment A) and called Captain Donovan to give hin this infomation.
