18691-A-001 1.Q INTRODUCTION These criteria shall govern the design of the new switchgear building, connecting corridor, and related facilities for the Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Plant.
2.0 GOVERNING CODES, REGULATIONS. AND REFERENCE DOCUMENTS Unless specifically stated otherwise, the design of all structures and facilities shall be based on applicable portions of the following codes and standards. Where conflict occurs between criteria, the more restrictive shall apply.

Consistent with existing conditions 3.2 MATERIALS AND FINISHES 3.2.1 General aterials of construction and interior finishes shall be suitable for the intended use in consideration of the criteria outlined in Section 3.1.
3.2.2 Roofing a.
The switchgear building and connecting corridor roof shall be UL Class A, granule surfaced, single ply modified bituminous membrane roofing with 1/4 inch per foot minimum slope and de. signed to resist the uplift requirements of the BOCA building code.
3.2.3 Walls The switchgear building shall have reinforced concrete exterior and interior walls The connecting corridor shall have uninsulated metal walls.
3.2.4 Insulation Insulation R value for roof shall be provided to meet the mechanical HVAC requirements.
3.2.5 Floors All floors shall be concrete.

1 3.2.7 Doors Hollow metal doors with pressed steel frames shall.have manufacturer i
standard primer. UL labeled fire-rated doors shall meet regulatory requirements per Section 2.2.
Three-hour fire-rated tornado pressure resistant doors to switchgear room (at third level) shall meet seismic requirements specified in civil / structural design criteria.
It shall have manufacturer standard primer.
Door hardware shall be compatiable to existing NUSCO hardware.
3.2.8 Fireproofine Fireproofing of structural steel shall be UL approved meeting the regulatory requirements per Section 2.2.
3.3 SANITARY FACILITIES j
No sanitary facilities shall be provided.

Security provisions shall be incorporated on two doors (entrance and egress) at switchgear room level as per NUSCO direction. All other i
security by NUSCO.
3.5 LIVE, DEAD, SEISMIC, AND WIND LOADS j
Refer to civil / structural design criteria for live, dead, seismic, and wind loads on roofs, exterior walls, and floors.
3.6 HVAC Refer to mechanical design criteria for HVAC requirements.
3.7 FIRE PROTECTION f
Refer to mechanical design criteria for fire detection, suppression i
and protection requirements. Switchgear room and battery room at third level shall be enclosed with 3-hour fire-rated walls and floors, j
Penetrations through fire-rated walls and floors shall be sealed per existing NUSCO penetration details, specifications, and procedures.
