l This refers to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) inspection conducted  ;

i by W. T. Orders and M. S. Lesser on August 26, 1988 to September 25, 1988. '

The inspection included a review of activities authorized for your Catawba.

facility. At the conclusion of the inspection, the findings were discussed ,

with those members of your staff identified in the enclosed inspection report.

The inspection findings indicate that certain activities appeared to violate r

NRC requirements. In one case, the violation, references to pertinent require-

ments, and elements to be included in your response are presented in the enclosed l

1 Notice of Violation. Because all the criteria for categorization of licensee t

identified violations were met in another case, this violation is not being
cited. The details pertaining to the licensee identified violation are  ;

described in the enclosed Inspection Report.  !

Your attention is invited to the unresolved item identified in the inspection

report. This matter will be pursued during future inspections. I

In accordance with Section 2.790 of the NRC's "Rules of Practice," Part 2,  ;

Title 10. Code of Federal Regulations, a copy of this letter and its enclosures  :
