2.7 GENERAL DESCRIPTION \  ;

i

'- The spent fuel storage for South Texas Project (Units 1 '

and 2) consists of 20 free standing racks, six (6) in Region 1 and fourteen (14) in Region 2. The rack array in the spent fuel pool is shown in Figure 2.2. / bg The biggest 132-cell rack is in Region 2 and is analyzed for 2:1 rod consolidation which results in the largest loads. The '

jdf( smallest 48-cell rack is in Region 1 and is analyzed only for dry new fuel storage.

The pool layout of high density fuel storage and box dimensions are all in agreement with the Criticality Analysis (Ref. 03). '

Region 1 racks are designed with removable poison.

Region 2 racks consist of poison wall design.

Each rack is provided with four corner pedestals welded to the bottom of the rack. These pedestals transmit the rack weight and the Vertical Seismic Loads to the pool floor.

l Refer to Figures 2.4 and 2.6.
