1.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION The Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is providing tecn-nical assistance to the Region V offices of the U.S.. Nuclear Regula-tory Commission (NRC) for conducting inspections at selected nuclear reactor sites.
1.1 Task 1 - Diablo Canyon, Unit 2 - Design Verification Program As a consequence of an independent design verification program, many nodifications and additions to the piping and electrical raceway support systems and building structural steel are being implemented at Diablo Canyon, Unit 2.
The LLNL is assisting the NRC in assess-ing the adequacy of this, work.
1.2 Task 2 - Palo Verde Nuclear Power Plant - Inspection of Reactors Under Construction The construction of~ Unit 1 is nearing completion and a number of inspection requirements are to be accomplished before the initial fuel loading can begin.
LLNL is assisting the NRC in completing this work.
2.
PROGRESS - DECEMBER, 1984 2.1 Task 1 - Diablo Canyon, Unit 2 Inspections were conducted of electrical raceway and HVAC supports during the weeks of December 3 and 17 A detailed list of the items inspected is provided on Attachment C.

2.2 Task 2 - Palo Verde, Unit 1 2.2.1 Subtask 1 - Radiography Examination This work was completed in September.
'2.2.2 Subtask' 2 - Fire Protection Systems Inspection A summary letter report of the findings of this inspection was received from NATLSCO and informally transmitted to the staff for review and comment on December 20, 1984.
Twenty items were iden-tified for follow-up.
2.2.3 Subtask 3 - Desian Control System Inspection The final report for this subtask was transmitted to Paul Narbut on December 13, 1984.
Several significant discrepancies identified during the inspection will require some follow-up and LLNL expects to be asked to participate in this effort.

FUNDING A detailed report of expenditures for this report period is provided in Attachments A & B.
4 PERSONNEL, SUBCONTRACTS, AND CONSULTANTS This work is being conducted with assistance from EG8G Energy Measurements, Inc. of San Ramon, California and the National loss Control Service Corporation.

MEETINGS / TRAVEL Paul Chan and Gary Johnson traveled to Diablo Canyon for - Task 1 inspections during the weeks of December 3 and 17, 1984 respec-ti vely.

CONCERNS None 7.
PLANS On-site inspection work at Diablo Canyon (Task 1) will be dis-continued at the end of January consistent with the direction received from Phil Morrill and Bob Dodds on December 28, 1984.
