SUBJECT:
CRYSTAL RIVER UNIT 3 - WITHDRAWAL OF TOPICAL REPORT REVIEW REQUEST (TAC No. MA1249)
Dear Mr. Cowan:
By letter dated December 18,1998, Florida Power Corporation (FPC) informed the staff that the request for U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) review of the topical report " Boron Dilution by Reactor Coolant System Hot Leg injection," submitted by FPC's letter dated February 27,1997, was being withdrawn. The FPC withdrawal letter indicated that the basis for withdrawal was that FPC has two approved methods of mitigating boron precipitation at Crystal River Unit 3 following a loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA), which is adequate to provide assurance of post-LOCA boron precipitation control, and thus NRC approval of the additional method was not necessary.
Thank you for the FPC letter informing us of the withdrawal of the review request. We have canceled all remaining review effort for this request, and TAC No. MA1249, is closed.
Sincerely, 1
