ATTACHMENT 3 HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION FACILITY OPERATING LICENSE NPF 57 DOCKET NO. 50 354 INFORMATION RELATED TO THE REPAIR PLAN 1
The following sentence should be added to the end of Paragraph 5.9 of the repair plan contained in Attachment 2 to LR N970667 dated October 9,1997:
"The UT examination provision of Code Case N504-1 will be expanded to include the additional axial length of the overlay onto the SA-508 Class 2 nozzle forging."
The Framatome Weld Procedure Qualification (PQ) is appropriate for the Hope Creek repair for the following reasons:
- 1. The ferritic materials of the Hope Creek Core Spray nozzle, SA-508, Class 2 and the Framatome PQ, SA 533, Grade B, Class 1, are the same P-No. and Group-No. as listed in ASME Section IX, Table QW-422. Therefore, their hardenability and weldability are the same.
- 2. The full thickness of the weld overlay deposited over the ferritic nozzle base material will be deposited using the heat inputs qualified by the Framatome PQ in accordance with Code Case N-432.
- 3. The prehaat used during welding of the PQ will also be used during the first three layers of deposit on the ferritic nozzle material; therefore, the grain refinement and tempering should be the same. Layers beyond the first three have no effect on grain refinement or tempering of the ferritic material.
- 4. The postheat will be performed after Lt least 1/8" of deposit over the ferritic material, thus, in the unlikely & 'nt of the presence of hydrogen in the weld region, provioing adequate time tot the migration of hydrogen away from the i
temperbead layers and heat affected zone (HAZ).
