SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTION REPORT NOS. 50-413/87-07 AND 50-414/87-07
This refers to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) inspection conducted by
A. L. Cunningham on February 17-24, 1987.
The inspection included a review of

activities authorized for. your Catawba Nuclear Station.
At the conclusion of-
the inspectiun, the findings were discussed with those members of your staff
identified in the enclosed inspection report,

Areas examined during the inspection are identified in the report.
Within
these areas, the inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures
and representative records, interviews with personnel, and observation of
activities in progress.
Within the scope of the inspection, no violations or deviations were
identified.

Your attention is directed to resolution of the exercise weaknesses identified
in Paragraphs 4,10 and 12 of the enclosed report. Although the major exercise
objectives were satisified, particular emphasis is directed to the site
.

emergency response organization's demonstration of the need to significantly
improve management control of emergency response activities in the Control Room
and Operational Support Center.

The enclosed Inspection Report documents an oral comitment (see Paragraph 12)

made by a licensee representative and discussed in the exit interview.
