n Vogtle Project September 29, 1988 United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission ATTN: Document Control Desk File: X7BC33 Washington, D. C. 20555 Log: GN-1496 PLANT VOGTLE - UNIT 2 NRC DOCKET NUMBER 50-425 CONSTRUCTION PERMIT NUMBER CPPR-109 FIRE PROTECTION: INSPECTION OF COMPLIANCE Gentlement In response to your letter dated September 15, 1988 we have provided to the NRC Region II office a copy of the latest revision to the documents requested. These documents are provided for your inspection teau to prepare for their evaluation of the Vogtle Unit 2 compliance with NUREG-0800, Section 9.5.1, Safe Shutdown Capability and Associated Fire Protection Features.

The information provided consists of-

1. Attachment 1 - a brief overview (51 pages) of the Plant Vogtle fire event safe shutdown evaluation program.
2. Attachment 2 - the results of the fire event safe shutdown evaluations which identify the safe shutdown train available to achieve safe shutdown given a fire in any plant fire area.

This report also identifies any special operational and design considerations (including raceway wrapping / radiant energy shields 1 and delineates the fire induced spurious actuations which could be expected to occur.

3. Attachment 3- the results of the Control Room Fire Alternate shutdown evaluation.
4. Attachment 4 - the plant operating procedure which is used in the event of a control room fire.
5. Attachments 5a and 5b - the plant operating procedures which are used to shutdown the plant during non-fire conditions. The supplementing procedure that defines the safe shutdown train available and the spurious actuations that may occur is presently scheduled for issuance prior to your inspection.

This procedure is very similar to the Unit 1 procedure which your people have already seen.

6. Attachments 6 thru 13 - listings of the drawings being provided at your request. The color coded raceway drawings (listed in Attachment 6) are the only copy of these documents available and we request that you return them during the inspection.

These documents form the basis for a portion of our fire protection finalization program and we would like to maintain the original documents in the project files. O 8910070207 030729 PDR ADOCK 0b000424 I(
