" ASSURANCE OF SUFFICIENT NET POSITIVE SUCTION HEAD FOR EMERGENCY CORE COOLING AND CONTAINMENT HEAT REMOVAL PUMPS" FOR SAN ONOFRE NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION (SONGS)
UNITS 2 AND 3 (TAC NOS. MA0040 AND MA0041)
Dear Mr. Ray:
On October 7,1997, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued Generic Letter (GL) 97-04, " Assurance of Net Positive Suction Head for Emergency Core Cooling and Containment Heat Removal Pumps," to all holders of operating licenses or construction permits.
The NRC issued GL 97-04 to confirm the adequacy of the net positive suction head (NPSH) available for emergency core cooling (including core spray and decay heat removal) and containment heat removal pumps under all design-basis accident scenarios.
In response to GL 97-04, you provided letters dated October 24,1997, and January 2,1998, for SONGS Units 2 and 3. In response to a request for additional information dated August 19, 1998, you submitted a letter on October 5,1998. These submittals provided the information requested by GL 97-04.- The staff has reviewed your responses and has concluded that all 4
. requested information has been provided. We therefore consider GL 97-04 closed for your facilities.
