eovsron assatama ut stsess. eses June 18, 1947 Mr. Lando W. Zech, Jr., chairman Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C.,'.20555

Dear chairman Zach and Commission Members:

The recent hearings about Region 4 at the NRc concerning inspection and enforcement of nuclear safety cause me great concern.

My concedra centers on the South Texas Nuclear Project, in which the City of Austin owns a 18%

partnership.

In the event of a nuclear accident, this plant could cause harm to virtually all of south Texas, I support the Government Accountability Project's acuien for a special project team which can operate independently

)

of Region 4 and of Mr.

Victor stello (Director of Nuclear operations).

The objectivity at the conventional inspec-tion process has been thoroughly questioned by the recent Congressional hearings, and the need for an independent team appears necessary.

I further support the Citizens concerned about Nuclear Power (CCANP) organization's motion to reopan STP licensing hearings.

If the recent Congressional hearings are any l

indication of Region 4 procedure at STNP, the true status of STNys s safety appears most questionable and a reopening would be appreciated.

sincerely, i

Sally shipman Council Member i
