Dear Mr. Hairston:

SUBJECT:

RESCLUTION OF GENERIC t.ETTER 88-05 (HPA B-101) FOR JOSEPH H. FARLEY j

NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 (TAC NOS. 68918 AND 68919)

On March 17, 1988, the NRC staff issued Generic Letter (GL) 88 05, "Boric Acid Corrosion of Carbon Steel Reactor Boundary Components in PWR Plants".

In this letter we requested that you provide assurances that a program has been imple.

mented at your facility that addresses the corrosive effects of reactor coolant system leakage at less that Technical Specification limits. The generic letter identified four considerations which your program should include.

In a letter dated May 31, 1988, you responded to GL 88-05, describing your commit-ment to a boric acid leakage monitoring and preventive program at your plant. We find that you have provided assurance that a program is in place dealing with boric acid leakage that potentially could affect the integrity of the reactor coolant pressure boundary. This fulfills your requirement in responding to GL 88-05.

j As discussed in GL 88 05, you should maintain records of the program and results obtained from irplementation of the program in auditable form.

The records may be subject to future auditing when your final procedures are implemented. We agree with your commitment to have final procedures implemented by October 31, 1988.

This letter completes our action on this issue. No response is necessary.

Sincerely, L.
