Dear Mr. Hutchinson:
I On October 7,1997, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued Generic Letter (GL) 97-04, " Assurance of Net Positive Suction Head for Emergency Core Cooling and Containment Heat Removal Pumps," to all holders of operating licenses or construction permits.
The NRC issued GL 97-04 to confirm the adequacy of the net positive suction head available for emergency core cooling (including core spray and decay heat removal) and containment heat removal pumps under all design-b& sis accident scenarios.
In response to GL 97-04, Entergy Operations, Inc., (EOI) provided letters dated November 4, 1997, and January 5,1998, providing information for Arkansas Nuclear One, Units 1 and 2. In response to a request from the staff dated June 4,1998, EOl submitted additional information in a letter dated July 2,1998. These submittals provided the information requested by GL 97-04. The staff has reviewed your response and has concluded that all requested Information has been provided; therefore, we consider GL 97-04 closed for Arkansas Nuclear One, Units 1 and 2.
