-DEVICE TYPE:
Lightsource Cell Assembly DESCRIPTION:
The sealed tritium light is constructed of borosilicate glass capsule that is i
internally coated with a phospher and filled with tritium gas under a pressure of 40 psi.
To provide high resistance to breakage every light is embedded into 0.050 inch silicone and sealed inside a steel cell that is then assembled into the optical collimator or tank muzzle reference system (MRS).
The MRS is then mounted to the tank.
Different style tanks require different optical collimator y
and attachment hardware.
General Dynamics assigns a unique MRS part number to each unique system.
However they all use the same source cell.
LABELING:
Due to location of the source cell labeling of the cell is impractical.
However the complete MRS is labeled in accordance with part 20.203 and contractual require-ments of Department of Defense (D0D).

l CONDITIONS OF NORMAL USE:
The muzzle refer sensor system is used by tank operations personnel to determine L
the position of the gun.

Lightsource Cell Assembly PROTOTYPE TESTING:
j Each source is leak tested, visually inspected for compliance with design specification and brightness. The completed MRS has been tested to military specification'to' determine the unit will operate under temperature'and other environmental or operational conditions which are associated with their use.
EXTERNAL RADIATION LEVELS:
The manufacturer reports no detectable radiation levels on any accessible surface of the MRS_or the Light Cell.
' QUALITY ASSURANCE AND CONTROL:
All components are built to contractual specification.
General Dynamics inspects all incoming parts for compliance to design specifications and functionally i
tested before they are sent'to the D0D.
The D00 will not accept any MRS that does not meet the contractual agreement.
LIMITATIONS AND/OR OTHER CONSIDERATIONS OF USE:

Lightsource Cell Assembly SAFETY ANALYSIS
SUMMARY
Based on our review of the information and that data cited below, that the light cell was previously deemed acceptable for licensng purposes, and that modification to the MRS mounting hardware do not effect the integrity of the light cell assembly, we continue to conclude that the device design is accept-able for licensing purposes.
This registration sheet was formulated to incor-(
porate the MRS into the automated registry system.
