This refers to the routine ~ safety inspection by Messrs. W. Bateman, J. Wechselberger,
W. Baunack, and R. McBrearty during the period of August 21 through October 4,1987
at the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station. The inspections consisted of
document reviews, interviews and observations of activities as documented in the
-enclosed inspection report. The findings were discussed with you and other members
of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.
Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were identified.
Paragraph 11 of this report describes an event where the operability of a control
rod drive mechanism was impaired when the associated accumulator could not hold
, gas pressure. Our review of this event noted that your technical specifications
and system operating procedures were not clear with regard to criteria for oper-
ability. We request that you review the event and provide us with your actions
to correct this problem.
