DEFERMENT OF FEEDWATER N0ZZLE INSPECTIONS FROM THE CYCLE 11R OUTAGE Re: Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station By letter dated April 9,1981, you committed to follow the recormended NRC inspection program for feedwater nozzle and sparger configurations in Table 2 of NUREG-0619, BWR Feedwater Nozzle and Control Rod Drive Return Line Nozzle Cracking, November 1980. This commitment requires you to inspect the feed-water nozzles in the upcoming Cycle 11 Refueling (Cycle 11R) outage which is scheduled to begin in April 1986. However, by letter dated November 20, 1985, you have requested that the feedwater nozzle inspection be deferred to the Cycle 12R outage which is scheduled for 1988.

The staff has reviewed your request and has had a meeting with your staff on December 13, 1985. Based on our review, we conclude that any previous undetected flaws, if any exist, in the feedwater nozzles will not grow to an i unacceptable size during one more operating cycle and that this inspection deferment is acceptable. Enclosed is the staff's Safety Evaluation for this  !
