SHEARON HARRIS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT
-UNIT NO. 1 DEFECTIVE WELDS ON 480V SWITCHCEAR ADDENDUM NO. 1 TO FINAL REPORT - ITEM 104 ISSUED MARCH 28, 1985 FEBRUARY 24, 1986 During an audit by the NRC of our 10CFR50.55(e) files, a question was raised in regard to the above subject. The NRC inspector questioned the justification for accepting several welds which-were not reinspected due to being covered with a coating of-shellac. In response to_the inspector's concern CP&L reviewed the method of evaluation of the shellac covered welds. Based on the
. concern, CP&L removed the coatings on the critical welds on one of-the six safety related switchgears. Results of this inspection revealed no significant deficiencies in weld quality. Subsequent-qualification' testing and analysis was performed utilizing the-weld configuration and quality of the as-built condition. The equipment.was shown to bc seismically adequate based.on the final qualification report.
