SUBJECT:

INITIATION OF CONSULTATION WITH THE NATIONAL MARINE FISHERY SERVICE (NMFS)

During 1994 and in the first three months of 1995, the number of green turtles taken in the intake canal of St. Lucie station has increased dramatically.

Green turtles are an endangered species under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). ESA places the responsibility on NRC, as a licensing agency, to initiate the consultation process between NMFS and NRC.

This memorandum serves as an incoming document to open a TAC number for this activity.
