Licensing Branch No. 4

Subject:

McGuire Nuclear Station Docket Nos. 50-369 and 50-370 Technical Specification Amendment for Cold Leg Accumulator Boron Requirements

Dear Mr. Denton:

Attached are proposed license amendments to Facility Operating, Licenses NPF-9 and NPF-17 for McGuire Nuclear Station Units 1 and 2, respectively. The proposed changes to the Technical Specifications seek to allow more time to

  • restore the boron concentration in an accumulator that is out of specifications.

The proposed changes continue to ensure that in the event of a LOCA, a sufficient amount of borated water will be injected into the core to maintain adequate cooling. The time extension is dependent upon the weighted average of the boron concentration of the three limiting accumulators being above the Technical Specification limit of 1900 ppm. The proposed change is intended to improve the reliability / availability of McGuire.

Attachment I contains the proposed revision to the Technical Specifications.

Attachment II contains the Justification and Safety Analysis in support of the proposed change. Attachment III provides a determination that the proposed change would not involve any significant hazards consideration as defined by 10CFR50.92.

This request _ involves one application for amendment to McGuire's Technical Specifications. Accordingly, pursuant to 10CFR170.21 a check for $150.00 is enclosed.

Please feci free to contact us if you require any additional information.

Very truly yours, CD8 e Hal B. Tucker JBD/mjf U f00/
