NRC Inspection Nos. 50-317/85-15. 50-318/85-13
This transmits the June 18 - August 15, 1985, resident inspection findings by
Messrs. T. Foley and D. Trimble at the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant, Lusby,
Maryland. Those findings were based on observation of activities, interviews,
independent measurements, and document reviews, and have been discussed with
Mr. Russell of your staff.
Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were observed.
This report includes observations of licensee performance in response to occur-
rences which rendered a Main Steam Isolation Valve inoperable and the subsequent
test program which ensued to determine the cause of the valve's inoperability.
Your performance with respect to this issue was in consonance with NRC's philosophy
of determining the " root cause" of equipment failure.
These observations may be
reflected as positive attributes of licensee performance as part of the Systematic
Assessment of Licensee Performance (SALP) process.
