SM0 KIN' This is in response to the recent D0L letter about the guy who was fired after identifying 2613 deficiencies at Millstone Paul:
Regarding the NU fellow who was laid off in January 1996 after trying to get material deficienies at Millstone corrected, it is now abundantly apparent that the NRC was absolutely right when it recently responded to NNSN that one cannot compare the actions it takes against individuals who run afoul of the Fitness for Duty rules (10 CFR 26) with those actions it doesn't take against individuals who violate 10 CFR 50.7 when they harass and intimidate employees raising safety concerns. Clearly, tossing an individual out of the industry for smokin' a little weed protects the public far more than doing anything that might hurt the professional reputation of an individual who squashes sincere expressions of safety problems and fires anyone who dares to point out that the containment might fall down in event of an accident.
