17 October 1958 AIR FAIL Mr. Lyall Johnson Licensing Division U. S. Atomic Energy Commission Washington, D.C.

SUBJECT:

Request for Allocation of Enriched Uranium - S!E-33

Dear Mr. Johnson:

This letter is a request for an allocation for special nuclear material to be processed in our Hemtite Plant under our SNM-33 license. We are spec-ifically requesting an allocation of 16.7 kilograms of uranium content as We with a U235 assay of more than 93%.

Mallinckrodt anticipates converting this We to uranium metal for shipment to the Babcock & Wilcox Company, Lynchburg, Virginia, SNM-h2, who will

)

fabricate it into fuel elemnts and will, in turn, ship the final product to Westinghouse Electric Corporation, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, SIE-61, for use in their test reactor (CPRR-8).

Mr. Paul Chevoor, of Westinghouse has informed us that he has recently had a conversation regarding this request for allocation with Mr. Charles Edwards of your office.

Mr. Chevoor states that Mr. Edwards has suggested that this request for allocation be brought to his attention.

We are very anxious to start processing this material since delivery of the uranium metal to the fuel element fabricator is required before the end of the year.

Your early attention to this request will be sincerely appreciated.

Very truly yours,

,~
