SUNECT : Request for Allocation of Enriched Uranium - SNM-33

Dear Mr. Johnson:

This letter is a request for an allocation for special nuclear material to be processed in our Hematite Plant under our SNM-33 license. We are specifically requesting an allocation of 68.5 kg of uranium content as UFs with an assay of 19.8 2 1 so that the material may be utilized in export trade.

Mallinckrodt anticipates converting this UFe to U metal for shipment to M & C Nuclear Corp., Attleboro, Mass., SNM-23, who will convert it to small pieces and M & C will in turn ship the final product to General

Atomics, San Diego, California, SNM-69 who are the ultimate user of the material in question. General Atomics will receive h0 kg of U metal.

The remaining quantity, which will consist of processing losses and scrap 4

generated at both M & C Nuclear and Mallinckrodt, will be returned to Mallinckrodt for final processing.

We are anxious to start the processing of this material and request your early attention to this allocation request. If there is additional in-i formation required, do not hesitate to call upon us.
