sunjEcr: MALLINCKRODT CHB 4ICAL WORKS APPLICATION FOR AUTHORIZATION TO INCINERATE - LICENSE NO. SM4 DOCKST NO. 70-36 L&R:JJL ANALYSIS AND FINDINGS By application dated October 6,1960, as supplemented November 8, and 16, 1960, Mallinckrodt Chemical Works requests amend-ment to their special nuclear material license No. SMi-33 to authorize the use of an incinerator for concentrating uranium containing trash prior to chemical recovery of the U-235 con-tent.

The trash will consist of filters, rags, etc., and floor mop waters. Batch limitation to 350g U-235 will be under technical supervisory control. 1he pot util be cleaned after each fired i

batch. Flue gas will be monitored and dust is controlled by plastic wrapping of filters prior to handling and firing.

Based on our review of the infomation submitted by the appli-cant, it is hereby determined that License SM(-33 may be amended to authorize the incineration activity.
