2. On the 28th of September 1979 while transferring Nitrogen gas from Safety Injection Tanks to the Waste Gas Syste= an over-pressure to the Surge Dru= (TK-10) caused the loop seal to blow. Total gross activity released was 2.00E-2 Ci. This
 • activity, as well as, the activity of the individual nuclides are reported in Tables 1A & 13 of this semi-annual report.

3 On the 3rd of October 1979 while releasing vaste gas from Decay Drum "A" as pe mitted by Maine Yankee Gaseous Radioactive Release Permit, #hk1 an increased Stack Gas RMS Reading terminated the release. While this release was in progress, the Operations group was transferring the contents of the Volume Control Tank (VCT) through the Waste Gas Surge Drum to the on-line Decay Drum "B". It was detemined that the inlet isolation valve of Decay Drum "A" allowed a small portion of this transfer to add to the on-going release. Total gross curies released during this incident were 2 37 This activity, as well as, the activity of the individual nuclides are reported in Tables 1A

The following table is not attached since there was no applicable release during the reporting period.

4. Measuremnts and Approximaticns of Radioactivity
a. Fissicn and activaticn gases:

Continuous discharge - vent stack sanples are analyzed monthly and the levels of activities determined are assumd to hold for the period between sanples. The ecntinuous vent stack monitor rmaing is used as a basis for increasing periodic sample frequency. Air ejector is .

sanpled nonthly a:d on any increase in continuous air ejector nonitor reading.

Batch discharges - cL. rect measuremnt of was+2 gas hold up drxs are made before discharge. Containment vents and purges are analyzed by direct reasurerent of the contaiment atrosphere at periodic intercals during the discharge.

b. Continuous nonitoring of primary vent stack iodines are rade by weekly measurcrunts of an in-line charcoal filter.

Batch discharges - dire reasurement of uste gas hold up drrs before discharge,

c. Particulates - continuous nonitoring of prirary vent stack is made by weekly measuremnt of an in-line particulate filter.

Batch discharges - direct neasurement of waste gas hold up drum before dischartje.

d. Liquid Effluents Weekly samle of seccndary systans liquid effluents for gross Beta-garma, alpha, trititzn, dissolved gases and ga:ma emitting isotopes ea& batch release.

Ccmposite sanples are made of secondary and primary systens liquid effluents for a quarterly analysis of strontiun 90 and 89.

5. Mininun time for a batch release: 0 hr. 5 min.
6. Maxinun gross release rate (uci/sec): 6.49E3
6. Abnormal Releases --
a. Liquid At 0900 hours0.0104 days
0.25 hours
0.00149 weeks
3.4245e-4 months
on January 20, 1980, a leak of approximately 5 gallons /hr.

was discovered on the EST line to the syphon heater. By 1730 hours0.02 days
0.481 hours
0.00286 weeks
6.58265e-4 months
, the leak was redirected to the containment syste:., thereby terminating the release. Total gross activity released was 2.44E-2 C1. mis activity as well as the activity of the individual nuclides are repor*d in Tables 2A and 2B of this se:niannual report.

b. Gaseous At 1530 hours0.0177 days
0.425 hours
0.00253 weeks
5.82165e-4 months
on January 3,1980, the air ejector radiation nonitor alarned high. Analysis confirned that the activity present was above normal. The activity was subsequently cleared frtrn the ejector nonitor.

We total gross activity released was 3.52E-3 Ci. Eis activity as well

, as that of the individual nuclides are repor*d in Tables lA and 1B of

! this semiannual report.

I h e following table is not attached since there was no applicable release during the reporting period.

Iblease Permit #'s 497 and 498 were discharges of gas generated during chemical core cleaning cperations during the period 5/2/80 to S/4/80. Early release was dictated by the need for additional storage volme. .

Release Permit #'s 499 through 503 were processed to provide storage volute calculated to be required for radical Hydrazine chenical core cleaning, originally scheduled for 5/24/80, but later rescheduled for '

5/30/80. Release Permit #'s 504 and 505 were releases of gases generated c.uring this operaticm.
