Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

This is to confirm the May 4,1984 telephone conversation between Mr. K. V. Hate' (CP&L) and Mr. A. Hardin (NRC) . Mr. Hardin was informed that the April 6, 1984 potentially reportable item, pertaining to the issue of possible insufficient lubrication of the thrust bearings of the Standby Diesel Generator turbochargers, has been evaluated and considered not to be reportable per the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e) and 10CFR, Part 21.

DN: 54-400 Governer Control Cable, for the, emergency diesel generator f

(EDG), supplied by Transamerican, DeLaval was found to be rated at 98.50F. rather than the licensee specified 120 F.

The incorrect cable could have resulted in a reduction in EDG response time to load changes. Routine Follow-up.
