I 3.21 ALTERNATE SHUTDOWN SYSTEMS ,

Applicability: ]

Applies.to the operating status of the Alternate Shutdown System (ASDS). ]  ;

Objective:. . .

To define the operating status of the installed Alternate

]

Shutdown System.. ]

Specification:- ]

The Alternate Shutdown System (ASDS), condisting of the following. ]

'A.

components, shall be. capable of performing its intended function ]

any time the plant is'in the Power Operation Condition.- ]

(Condition 7) ]

• - Alternate diesel generator (DG-2) ]

• Turbine driven auxiliary feed water pump.(P-258) ]

• Auxiliary charging pump (P-7) ]

• .The alternate shutdown system supporting controls and ]

components which are necessary for the system to perform ]

its. intended function ]

B. The alternate diesel generator shall have 100 gallons of ]

f fuel in its day tank and the ability to transfer additional ]

fuel from the. fuel oil storage tanks to the alternate diesel ))

generator day tank =in order to be considered capable of ]

performing its. intended function.- ]-

' Remedial' Actions: ]

A. With the. Alternate Shutdown System (ASDS) not capable of performing ]

'its intended function, within seven days from the time of discovery, ]

either: ]

• restore the required capability, or ~]

i a provide' substitute components with adequate capability to ]

perform its intended function,'or ]

• establish a roving fire watch for the following areas: . ]

the cable tray rooms, the turbine building, the circulating .]

water pumphouse, the switchgear room, and the cable vault. ]

The fire watch shall tour each of the above areas at least ]

once each hour. .]

- B. : With the' Alternate Shutdown . System incapable of performing its ]

intended function for a period of thirty days, submit a report ]

to the NRC describing plans to restore the system capability ] '[

to perform its intended function. Submittal of a Licensee ]

j' Event Report.(LER) satisfies this requirement.. ']
