, $ * ' ' April -4,1985 70-1131/85-02 APPENDIX A ESTINGHOUSE RESPONSE TO NRC NOTICE OF VIOLATION Item:

Failure to = maintain cartridge filters within the gross weight limit specified by procedure.

(1) The violation is ' correct as stated in your Notice of Violation.

-(2) The violation was caused by a defect in the weighing scale and failure of ~ the operator to follow Operating Procedure CSR 5015,

" Washing Machine".

-(3) L The operation was immediately suspended and the cartridge filters were transferred from.the hopper to other containers for reweighing.

The inoperative scale was replaced and the new scale calibrated on February 20, 1985.

This scale was placed under a control format which assures routine calibration and documentation.

Furthermore, the responsibility for-all Conversion Area scale documentation and control was assigned to an individual Conversion Area supervisor.

All applicable operators were reinstructed on procedures used in this operation.

(4) An. audit was performed during February to determine weighing scale operability and calibration for ' other scales in the Contamination Controlled Area. No significant deviations were observed.

(5) Full compliance has been achieved.
