On the appropriate figures in Chapter 12.3, indicate the major traffic patterns used by plant personnel during their daily activities.
On Figure 12.3.1-1 describe the route (including access control points, and change areas encountered) that male and f emale plant employees would take in going from the lobby in the. unrestricted
- area, to a
restricted radiation area,. and return.
Response
The major traffic patterns are indicated on Figs. 12.3.1-8 l
through 15, 19 through 21, 25, 26, and 28 through 30, attached.
To assist in describing the route plant employees would take in going from an unrestricted area to a restricted area and
- return, refer to the enlargemen't of Fig. 12.3.1-1, attached as j

j Access To The Restricted Area From The Unrestricted Area Employees may enter the plant in one of two ways.
They may enter either through the employees entrance at the northeast corner of the office and service (OSS) building or through the lobby, located approximately 150 ft west of the employees entrance on "d
the north side of the OSS building.
In either case, in order to J-gain access to the Restricted Area, employees will proceed to Corridor No.
1.
At this point, male employees may enter the locker room in the Unrestricted Area to change into their work clothes (not to be confused with protective clothing).
Female l
employees will have the use of a locker room in the Unrestricted Area on the mezzanine level of the OSS building.
For reference, this locker room is located above the southeast end of the Machine Shop.

When employees are ready to enter the Restricted Area, they will proceed south in Corridor No. 2 and make a left turn at the end of the corridor.
They will place their key cards in the key card access reader and proceed to the Health Physics Access Control l
Point.
- Here, they will consult the Plant Status Board, receive radiation work permits, and confer with Health Physics personnel.
They may then continue into the Restricted Area of the plant.
Since change areas in the plant will be localized at each job site, it will not be necessary for employees to change into protective clothing at the Health Physics Access Control Point.
Protective clothing will be available on the east side of the Exit corridor wall as well as at many job sites.

SNPS-1 FSAR Return To The Unrestricted Area From The Restricted Area Employees ready to leave the Restricted Area will be dressed in their work clothes (not protective clothing) since change areas in the plant are localized as well as initial monitoring (frisking) stations.
They will proceed to the Exit corridor and again monitor themselves for contamination with the equipment provided.
If they are contaminated, they will proceed to the Decontamination Room (indicated by the broken line) where sinks, showers,'and other decontamination aids: are available.
After decontamination, employees are monitored again to ensure that the decontamination effort was successful.
When employees are determined to be below plant contamination guide levels, they proceed west, down the Exit corridor to the Health Physics Access Control Point.
Radiation work permits are terminated and employees are given the opportunity to discuss anything of consequence that occurred in the Restricted Area with Health Physics personnel.
They then continue west in the Exit corridor and into the Unrestricted Area.
Once in Corridor No. 2, they may proceed to the locker rooms or any other place in the l
Unrestricted Area.
