Rio Rancho, NM, 87144 Email: lfl1764@msn.com General Comment As a frequent worker at the Nevada Test Site during our nuclear testing days I have often wondered why this site is not used for our nuclear waste storage site. Must be political as much of our decisions are nowadays! This site has many thousands of acres that are already contaminated and that will never be made available for public use. The site already has extended security that will be maintained for the indefinite future because of the test debri that will remain there forever. All that is needed is a railroad spur and a truck unloading depot to activate the site. I have always said, "give me a backhoe and a secretary to list the storage locations and we will be in business. "Storing this material in New Mexico is not cost effective because of the security and transportation improvements that will have to be made and to the general public for putting a nuclear depository in the midst of their ranching and farmland. Get rid of the politics on this and do what's right. Use the facility that is ready-made for permanent storage and save us taxpayers a load of money and safety. p.s. I have expressed these views formerly in letters to the NRC and to Pete Domenici several years ago.
