The risks of transporting and storing high levels of radioactive waste in New Mexico outweigh the rewards. This storage facility put lives and land at risk of being contaminated, and it is not right that communities have to endure more, when these people already have especially high rates of cancer due to radioactive exposure. New Mexicans are not even covered under the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act. Private companies like HOLTEC take advantage of the lack of regulations and safety precautions for our communities...but New Mexico has been a dumping ground for long enough. This proposal is a clear example of environmental racism and HOLTEC needs to find another solution for where to place this waste. We also demand that in person hearings be held regarding this matter. Virtual meetings are not sufficient.
