SUMMARY
Month: December 1984 McGuire Unit 1 was in a maintenance outage for most of the month. The unit i
returned to service on December 26, and held at 15% for several hours for Chemistry cleanup of Feedwater. The unit then l'ncreased power to 50% and i
remained at that level through the rest of the month because of system load requirements.

SUMMARY
l l
Month:
December 1984 McGuire Unit 2 reduced power to perform Incore/Excore calibrations on 12/01.
The unit reduced power on 12/03 to seal a vacuum leak. On 12/05 and 12/06 power was reduced to calibrate nuclear instrumentation. A feedpump problem caused the reduction on 12/05 to be greater than what was required for instrument calibration. The unit operated at the reduced rate until 12/12 when power was increased to 100%. The unit was forced to reduce power later that night when the 2A Feedpump indicated high vibration. The unit increased to 100% on 12/14, but was forced to shutdown on 12/15 to repair a leaking Feedwater check valve. The unit returned to service on 12/16 and tripped on 12/17 when a Feedpump tripped and a runback occurred. Steam Generator levels began to oscillate and the unit tripped on Low Low Steam Generator level. The unit returned to service later that day and held power at 15% on 12/18 for chemistry cleanup. Excore instrumentation was calibrated on 12/18.
The unit tripped on 12/21 during a swap of Inverters for P.M. purposes. The unit returned on 12/22, but was forced off line on 12/23 when a valve malfunctioned and isolated the Chemical Volume and Control system from the Reactor Coolant system. The unit returned on 12/23 and was forced to hold power at a reduced rate on the 24th for chemistry and on the 24th and 25th for system load. An Excore calibration was performed on 12/26 and a Reactor Protection System PT was done on the 28th. The unit operated at 100% for'the balance of the month.
