Attached is our third interim report on the subject item which was deemed reportable per the provisions of 10CFR50.55 (e) and 10CFR, Part 21, on June 19,1984. CP&L is pursuing this matter, and it is currently projected that corrective action and submission of the final report will be accomplished by February 15,1985.

SUBJECT:
Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant, Unit No.1,10CFR50.55 (e) and 10CFR, Part 21 reportable deficiency.
Stainless steel sockolets and weldolets not supplied in accordance with NCA 3800.
ITEM:
1" and K" ASME Ill Code Class 2 Weldolets and Sockolets.
SUPPLIED BY:
Guyon Alloys, Inc.,950 S. 4th St., Harrison, New Jersey 07029 NATURE OF DEFICIENCY:
Bonney Forge, the fitting manufacturer, performed an internal review and found that the material was not supplied in accordance with NCA 3800. (The mill test report was not verified by Bonney Forge testing).
DATE PROBLEM OCCURRED:
CP&L was notified by Guyon Alloys on May 29,1984 that the documentation was deficient.
DATE PROBLEM REPORTED:
On June 19,'1984, CP&L (Mr. K. V. Hate') notified the NRC (Mr. A.
I Hardin) that this item was reportable per the provisions of 10CFR50.55 (e) and 10CFR, Part 21.
SCOPE OF PROBLEM:
139 each 1" and h" weldolets and sockolets.
SAFETY IMPLICATION:
Since the documentation did not meet ASME Code requirements, the potential existed for failure if the fittings were installed in an i
ASME Class 2 or 3 line.
REASON DEFICIENCY IS REPORTABLE:
The materiais were incorrectly qJalified as ASME Class 2.
CORRECTIVE ACTION:
Of the 139 fittings received,132 were returned to the vendor.
Four (4) each have been scrapped, two (2) each have been downgraded for use in Non-ASME lines, and one (1) each has not been accounted for.
The three (3) heat numbers in question were repusented in the 132 l
fittings returned to the vendor. Bonney Forgc notified CP&L that the required chemical overchecks had been performed.
Guyon Alloys has informed CP&L that upon review, these chemical overchecks have been deemed acceptable.
FINAL R EPORT:
The final report on this item is now pending a review of potential l
generic implications concerning other materials received on site I
which were manufactured by Bonney Forge. The final report is projected to be issued by February 15,1985.
