AFFIDAVIT OF WADE FAIRES I, Wade E. Faires, Jr. being first duly sworn, dc hereby-depose and say:

1. I am employed by Westinghouse Electric Corporation, Midwest Nuclear Technology Center -(Schaumburg, Illinois).

My business address is 1501 Wooddidld Drive, Suite 105N, Schaumburg, Illinois 60195. I am presently the Manager of the Structural Design Engineering Group in the Schaumburg

' office.

2. I received a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from' North. Carolina State University (1962-1967) and a Masters of Engineering in' Structural Engineering from the University of Florida-(1978-1982). I am a Registereo Professional Engineer.in Florida, New Jersey, and Illinois.

3. Upon graduation from North Carolina State University,

.I worked as a Engineer in' Newport News, Virginia for five years. This work was primarily in the areas of major ship structure and equipment supports to withstand static, dynamic, blast, shock and wave loadings.

4. In 1972, I joined Westinghouse Electric Corporation, Offshore Power Systems (OPS) as a Senior Engineer. At OPS I was involved in ASME Class 1, 2 and 3 pipe support designs for the Byron Nuclear Plant and Salem 1 and 2 at New Jersey for three years. For eight years I was responsible for the barge design and major support design for Category I and II structure for the Floating Nuclear Power Plant to withstand static and dynamic loadings. In February, 1983, I transferred to the Midwest Nuclear Technclogy Center (MNTC) (Schaumburg, Illinois) as Manager of the Byron Structural Engineering site group for containment supports. At the site I was responsible for the management of the pipe support new designs and the resolutions of pipe support field problems for Units 1 and 2 containment. In April of 1984, I was transferred to the MNTC office in Schaumburg as Manager of the Structural Design Engineering Group. I have been responsible for the managment of final drawing revisions issuance, Post-100% support reconciliation, new designs and the transmittal of hanger loads to Sargent & Lundy for the Byron Project.

5. I have been asked by counsel for Commonwealth Edison Company to address Findings 3-15 and 3-16 of the NRC Staff's September 30, 1983 IDI Report. My discussion of these matters is set forth in the attached Joint Statement of Wade Faires and Robert Manz. The statements made
